Laredo ISD accepts construction credit, approves budget amendments and several administrator hires

At its Aug. 15 meeting, the Laredo Independent School District Board of Trustees approved several administrative items including a construction credit, budget transfers and the hiring of multiple professional staff.
Trustees accepted a deductive change order (a credit) from Leyendecker Construction of Texas for unused allowances on the Sigueroa High School phase 1 instructional wing in the amount of $56,374.56. Administration said this is a returned credit for allowances not used in the contract.
The board also approved assignment of $63,918 to E‑rate fund 180 to carry forward outstanding purchase orders and noted an agenda figure for the general operating fund 199; the transcript lists that amount in unclear numeric form in the agenda text. Trustees passed a budget amendment (BA number 24,2507) to transfer discretionary funds and amended the motion to add $2,800 for hydration backpacks for Martin High School band.
After an executive session, trustees approved multiple recommended hires for elementary and secondary assistant principal positions, a PEIMS coordinator and other professional positions. The superintendent recommended hires including Lydia Rotell (Dovalina Elementary), Lina Espinosa (Sanchez Ochoa), Denise Resio (Alma Pierce) and Alejandra Oreana (PEIMS); trustees approved the recommendations by voice vote with one recorded no on one hire.
Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Rios also told trustees the Texas Education Agency's ratings release may be delayed because of a temporary restraining order related to AI scoring; a TEA hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26.
Next steps: administration will post auction and event notices as announced and complete hiring onboarding.
