Laredo Independent School District held a public hearing at 5:15 p.m. Thursday to review its proposed 2024–25 budget and proposed tax rate ahead of a regular board meeting later the same evening.
The hearing, called by the LISD Board of Trustees and opened by Superintendent Dr. Rios, provided residents an opportunity to comment and hear a brief presentation of the district’s budget plan. "Anyone wishing to speak or to be heard about the proposed budget and or tax rate must sign up on the sheet provided," the presiding official said, adding that speakers would be "provided up to 3 minutes to speak on the item."
Miss Ayala, who introduced the budget presentation, told the board the hearing is the final step in the budget development process and that "the summary of our proposed budget was posted on our website concurrently with this publication of notice" for public review. She also said, "The Texas Education Code mandates this hearing." Miss Ayala said the district used site-based budgeting with input from parents and community members and that she would present a summarized version of the proposed budgets for adoption during the board’s regular meeting later that night.
Superintendent Dr. Rios outlined the evening’s schedule: two budget hearings (the one at 5:15 and a second at 5:30), a public safety committee meeting to be held in the auditorium for committee members, and the regular board meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m. She encouraged attendees to remain for the sequence of meetings to avoid moving between rooms.
No formal motions or votes on the budget or tax rate were recorded during this hearing segment. The board’s next procedural step, as announced, was to consider adoption of the proposed 2024–25 budget during the regular board meeting scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
The district listed trustees present during roll call; the board invited public comment under the stated three-minute limit and indicated materials summarizing the proposed budget are available on the district website for review.
