Anik (Speaker 8) reported from the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) meeting on Sept. 25 and highlighted programs and approvals that affect Pottsgrove and neighboring districts. She said the Office of Early Childhood Services presented on Head Start, the MCIU Discovery Center is now fully operational, and the Pathways to Empowerment program supports personalized student interventions.
The MCIU also approved agreements and budgets for mental‑health education, speech and language services, Project AWARE funding, and subgrant allocations for special education services. Anik noted a new affiliation with James Madison University to support student practicums, early learning grants and waiver agreements intended to allow some students to receive services that insurance would not otherwise cover. She described the Discovery Center as a hands‑on space for creative learning and professional development.
Anik encouraged board members to review the email attachments she circulated and noted the next MCIU meeting is Nov. 20. The MCIU report framed regional supports the district can access for co‑teaching, behavior interventions and STEAM education.
