Springfield Township school board elects Bedard president, Needleman vice president; approves routine motions

At a Dec. 3 reorganization meeting, the School District of Springfield Township Board of School Directors elected Jeffrey Bedard president and Michael Needleman vice president by acclamation, approved minutes and personnel items, accepted a confidential settlement and accepted the 2023–24 audit pending peer review.
Jeffrey Bedard was elected president of the School District of Springfield Township Board of School Directors by acclamation at the board’s reorganization meeting on Dec. 3, 2024. Michael Needleman was elected vice president by acclamation; Doctor Karen Tarateski had served as temporary president during the nomination process.
The board moved through several routine consent items with no recorded opposition. It voted to approve minutes from the Nov. 19, 2024 regular meeting and approved personnel recommendations, including certified and support personnel, temporary staff and conference/workshop attendance as presented in the meeting attachments. The board also approved a confidential settlement and release agreement in student case 2024-1203-01.
Superintendent Doctor Yannickone thanked the board for its service and noted the district’s operational priorities for the month, including winter athletics and upcoming events. Bedard, after his election, said, “Thank you very much. I appreciate your confidence from the board and, obviously, take the responsibility very seriously.” Needleman thanked colleagues for their trust when accepting the vice-presidency.
The board accepted the audit report for the year ended June 30, 2024 as presented to the finance committee, to be finalized pending peer review by VARs Gowey, Ehman and Fultz LLC. The legal notice read at the start of the meeting cited Section 402 of the Pennsylvania Public School Code of 1949 as amended as the authority for the reorganization meeting.
The board announced upcoming committee and meeting dates, including a Policy Committee meeting on Dec. 12, 2024 (virtual), a Property Committee meeting on Dec. 17, 2024 (virtual), and regular board meetings on Jan. 7, 2025 and Jan. 21, 2025 (hybrid). The meeting was held in person at the Springfield Township Middle School auditorium and broadcast information was posted on the district website.
No public commenters signed up for either agenda or non-agenda items during the meeting. The meeting adjourned and the board planned to move directly into its scheduled regular meeting.
