Pottsgrove SD: West Elementary renovation substantially complete; geothermal, roof and HVAC upgrades finished

Contract representatives told the Pottsgrove School District board that extensive summer renovations at West Elementary are substantially complete and are entering final commissioning and close‑out.

Ed Dahl, presenting the project update, described ceiling replacements, electrical and generator work, new fire protection where parts of the building were previously unsprinklered, envelope repairs, and a full roof replacement using white TPA membrane across the district’s flat roofs. He said the renovation included HVAC upgrades centered on a new geothermal system, with 44 wells drilled to 500 feet to serve heating and cooling needs.

Dahl said contractors are finishing punch‑list items, commissioning HVAC systems to fine‑tune controls, and will provide owner training and close‑out documentation to district staff. He and Michael Lang told the board the gym’s barrel metal roof work is ongoing and a new metal roof is scheduled for installation the following week. The presentation included drone and site photos showing reseeded areas over the geothermal well field; staff said grass reseeding will be ready for mowing in about six weeks.

Michael Lang emphasized schedule and budget: he reported the work took place over the summer in roughly two and a half months, was finished on time and on budget, and that there were zero change orders. District staff will receive training on a district‑wide controls upgrade that will allow facilities staff to monitor operations for West Pottsgrove and other district buildings.

Board members who toured the site praised the work and noted quieter classrooms from repositioned unit ventilators and additional storage created where older units were removed. The presentation closed with the contractors available to answer questions and an acknowledgement that final administrative documentation will be turned over to district staff.
