York County Board of Equalization approves assessor refunds, corrections and clerical fix

Kurt Bolden, the county assessor, told the board he had three items for consideration and described the refunds: an incorrect acreage recorded on a farm parcel, a rural residential parcel listed incorrectly as an ‘‘acre of site’’ rather than a single acre of grass, and a request from a property owner, identified in the record as Mr. Lehman, who had been assessed twice on his land (by square footage and by acres). Bolden said the assessor’s office sent refund letters to the county treasurer and that the refunds must be approved by the board before tax-list corrections can be made.
The board moved and approved the refund requests and then approved the tax-list corrections Bolden referenced (the assessor referred to correction ranges verbally). Bolden then presented a clerical error report that he said would permit the assessor’s office to fix Mr. Lehman’s incorrect 2024 land values; the board approved that report by roll call.
Bolden also said postcards notifying affected taxpayers were mailed on Sept. 7. He noted one named entity in the record (spoken as 'Cool Junction' in the transcript and later mentioned again with inconsistent spelling) was required to receive postcard notice and that roughly 20 parcels related to Hampton Public School were included; he said a related hearing is scheduled at the high school the following evening. Board members confirmed attendance at an upcoming central district assessor meeting and discussed scheduling for a matter involving Sarah Scott; Bolden said he was awaiting follow-up from the county attorney’s office and that Oct. 15 was being targeted for the next meeting.
