Jersey Shore Area School District elects board officers, approves 2025 calendar at reorganizational meeting

Michelle Stemler was appointed board president at the Jersey Shore Area School District Board of School Directors’ reorganizational meeting on Dec. 3, 2024, following nominations from board members and a roll-call vote.
Board members also completed routine officer appointments. Nominations for vice president included Mary Thomas and Harry Broomgard; the board conducted roll-call votes for vice president and treasurer during the meeting and announced the outcomes verbally as part of the reorganizational process. Kayla was approved as assistant board secretary after nominations were closed and a voice vote.
Under the president’s report, the board said an executive session was held before the meeting to discuss legal and personnel matters. The president asked members to submit their top two committee preferences by Christmas so committee appointments can begin in January.
Superintendent’s report: the superintendent reported administration has begun an action plan related to movement of staff and resources at Salleysburg Elementary and said work with teachers and the teachers association is underway to address questions and concerns.
The board approved the 2025 calendar of board meetings by voice vote with no questions from members.
The reorganizational business concluded and the meeting proceeded to an extended public-comment period during which multiple residents urged the board to rescind a prior vote to close Salleysburg Elementary School and raised questions about planning, transportation and grant paperwork.
No formal motion to rescind the previous closure vote was made during the meeting.
