La Porte council forwards two nominations to Harris Central Appraisal District board

The council adopted Resolution 2024‑fifteen making up to five nominations from the city to the Harris Central Appraisal District (HCAD) board for terms starting Jan. 1, 2025. After brief discussion, members nominated Nolan Allen and Bill Bentley and voted to forward those nominations for inclusion on the group's ballot.
City staff explained the change in the legislative process used to assemble nominees and noted that some incumbent directors, including Mike Sullivan, elected not to seek reappointment. Council members discussed whether nominees should be consulted before forwarding names and confirmed individuals may decline or withdraw a nomination.
The resolution passed by voice vote; the final HCAD ballot will be assembled from nominations provided by similar entities and will be returned to taxing units for election later this fall.
