La Porte council approves consent agenda, equipment purchases, appointments and camera contract

Mayor Rick Helton administered the oath to Judge Janica Bratton for the municipal court of record, effective Oct. 1, 2024. Council also approved an EMS body‑worn camera and communications equipment service agreement covering five years with a first‑year cost of $53,000 and annual fees of $31,150 for years two through five; staff said the devices are replacing end‑of‑life units and that recordings are governed by HIPAA rather than open records.
The council approved appointments to Planning & Zoning, naming Victor Paris to continue as chairman and Dewey Walls as the new District 5 commissioner. Other routine items included awarding annual requirements bids for water treatment chemicals and asphalt and approving sponsorship for the La Porte Community Civic Club event. All motions on these items passed on voice votes.
