Commissioners review budgets for colleges, libraries and other non-county entities
Summary

During the March 11 budget work session, commissioners reviewed several non-county entities' budget requests and service proposals.
College of Southern Maryland: Kramer said CSM requested roughly $72,000 more than FY13 to fund a Nonprofit Institute, a county chair and a Veterans Affairs coordinator. A CSM representative noted Annapolis was considering cuts that could affect the request.
College foundation: The College of Southern Maryland Foundation requested $50,000 to support scholarships and add to the endowment.
Library system: Library leadership requested a net county funding increase of $114,000, driven in part by conversations about restored pension/OPEB funding and operational needs. Library director Miss Reeb said a customer survey showed similar interest in reopening Lexington Park on Sundays and in increasing materials; the library asked for $50,000 to reopen Lexington Park Library on Sundays and another $50,000 for books and DVDs. "We did a quick survey... the customers, by a small percent, 27%, 32%... wanted more materials to check out," Miss Reeb said, noting Sunday hours and materials were close in priority.
Other notes: The Alcohol Beverage Board and Supervisor of Elections raised modest staffing and operating questions; the Alcohol Board requested a half-time position and discussed options such as temporary staffing versus a part-time hire. The Supervisor of Elections' FY14 request was slightly lower ($672,315) and commissioners asked staff to confirm whether savings are tied to the Golden Beach polling place.
