The La Porte City Council voted to adopt ordinance 2024‑4018, granting Special Conditional Use Permit SCUP2024‑0001 to allow construction of a single family detached dwelling on an 11.8‑acre tract at 911 McCabe Road. Yvonne Briscoe of the Planning and Development Department presented the staff report, showing the site is zoned planned unit development and the request aligns with the future land use designation of low density residential.
Briscoe told council the applicant provided a proposed site plan for one single‑family home (roughly 5,540 to 6,238 square feet as presented in application materials) located on the northeast side of the parcel; staff mailed 39 notices and received one comment in favor. The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval by a 6–0 vote.
Applicant Michael Stone addressed council, saying the house will be for his family and clarifying that the stated square footage included garage and porch areas. Councilmembers asked whether Stone intended to subdivide the parcel; Stone said his only conversation about selling a parcel was with a conservancy organization and that he otherwise did not plan to divide the property.
Councilmember Martin moved to approve the ordinance; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote. The ordinance amends Chapter 106 (Zoning) of the Code of Ordinances to permit the requested use at the legal description provided in the staff report.
