Blaine Yeager, city planner and airport manager, told council the item came forward from the Planning Commission with a recommendation for approval. The applicant, Bert Lau, identified himself as the property owner and said he bought the old, vacant house to fix it up and requested rezoning to allow mixed use. ‘‘This old house became vacant a few years ago, and I bought it to fix it up,’’ Bert Lau said.
Council called for public comment in support and opposition; no members of the public spoke. The mayor closed the hearing at about 6:06 p.m. Later in the meeting the council heard the first reading of ordinance 2024-34 for the zoning-district map amendment; the mayor noted this was the first reading and did not call a final vote.
