SNYDER, Texas — The Snyder City Council approved a Chapter 380 façade grant program and application at its Dec. 2 meeting, with changes to the application deadline and scoring timelines to reduce holiday‑season burden on small businesses.
Staff presented the program guidelines and scoring sheet and the council discussed implementation details. Because the initial deadline (January 15, 2025) would have fallen in a busy holiday period, council members asked for a later deadline to give businesses time to prepare applications. Staff said the city would open the application now and the applications would be due Feb. 15, 2025; the council expects to review applications in March and present performance agreements at that time.
Councilmembers also questioned a requirement that applicants provide multiple contractor bids; staff and business owners said forcing multiple bids could disadvantage local businesses where only one contractor may be available. Staff confirmed edits to allow the program to work with smaller local contractor pools and said eligibility would hinge on sales‑tax status tied to an address.
The council voted to approve the Chapter 380 façade grant program with the discussed changes and directed staff to advertise the program and return with final application materials.
