Rensselaer County Legislature honors South Troy Pop Warner Pee Wee cheer squad after national finish

The Rensselaer County Legislature paused its December 19 special meeting to honor the South Troy Pop Warner Junior Pee Wee cheerleading squad for qualifying for national competition and finishing fourth in their division.
The resolution, introduced as P 55724, noted the squad traveled to Trenton, New Jersey for the Eastern Region championship, captured second place there, and then finished fourth at the Pop Warner Cheer and Dance National Championship in Florida, "finishing only 4 points away from 1st place," according to the resolution text. The measure lists head coach Deidra King and assistant coaches Judy Burns, Christina Barcomb and Carla Blau and names multiple participants from the roster.
The legislature invited the coaches and athletes to the front of the chamber and presented them with a copy of the resolution; the chamber offered applause and short congratulatory remarks. One attendee said, "We're very proud of you," while coaches and others thanked the body and wished the team well over the holidays.
The resolution was adopted later in the meeting as P 55724 by voice vote (recorded as 17 ayes). The Legislature's formal action provides a public acknowledgement of the squad's accomplishment and records the county's recognition in its minutes.
