District 62 approves Title I summer school, ESY and Parent University for summer 2025

The District 62 board approved summer learning programs and Extended School Year (ESY) services during the Jan. 21 meeting.
District staff described the Title I summer program (funded through the Title I grant), which will be hosted at Plainfield and Orchard Place from June 10 to June 27, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Students entering kindergarten through eighth grade who need targeted academic support, including bilingual and new-to-country students, were invited. Staff said the program will emphasize reading and math and will add an embedded STEM component this year.
Parent University for multilingual families will run June 9–20 in the evenings (5–8 p.m.), funded through Title III; sessions are Monday–Thursday with Friday family field trips organized by the multilingual department. ESY services for students eligible under an IEP will operate the same general dates in half-day format to maintain IEP progress over the summer. Staff confirmed workbooks will be ordered for students to take home and that transportation planning and outcome measurement (to capture improvement or maintenance of progress) are being addressed.
A board member moved to approve the 2025 summer programs as presented; the motion was seconded and approved by roll-call vote.
