Addison approves $155,600 study for East Addison trail, prioritizing community input and tree preservation

Janet Tidwell, director of parks and recreation, presented a scope to hire Dunaway Associates LLC to develop conceptual alignments and a Phase 1 construction project for an East Addison trail connecting Monfort Road to Wynwood Park. Tidwell said the trail master plan identified the corridor as one of the last opportunities to capture natural corridors within Addison and emphasized preserving about 40 mature trees on the finance department property that will be vacated when finance staff relocates to Town Hall.
The agreement, not to exceed $155,600, covers inventory and constraints, two conceptual alternatives, a recorded presentation for outreach, an open house, renderings and an opinion of probable cost for a Phase 1 segment from Town Hall to Wynwood. Councilmembers stressed the need to prioritize direct outreach to nearby residents and neighborhoods most affected and suggested multi‑channel engagement (direct mail, newsletter, online) and weighting feedback from adjacent residents.
Council approved the agreement unanimously; staff said the study is expected to take about six months and will return a preferred concept and implementation recommendations.
