County administrator Jonathan reported the county health department's primary medical refrigerator failed and that staff had identified a suitable new unit priced at $11,893.51. Because the parts and repair timeframe made replacement nearly as expensive as a new unit, staff proposed buying a new refrigerator and using available COVID-19 funds to cover the cost. There was an additional shipping charge (quoted at approximately $1,400), bringing the combined figure discussed in the packet.
Commissioners moved and approved using COVID-19 funds to purchase the new medical refrigerator, noting the importance of preserving temperature-controlled medications and the relatively small dollar amount compared with potential losses from spoiled medicines.
Separately, county administration said the final step for the RAISE grant process is a town hall meeting to present conceptual drawings and collect public comment. Staff proposed January 8 at 6 p.m. in the judicial center basement; commissioners recorded the date to be published and asked administration to notify the engineers to attend.
Both the refrigerator purchase and the town-hall date were recorded in the meeting minutes and will be followed up by county administration and health department staff.
