School Board approves two-year district calendars for 2025–26 and 2026–27

The Miami-Dade County School Board voted Wednesday to adopt a two-year district calendar package covering the 2025–26 and 2026–27 school years.
Antonio White, first vice president of the United Teachers of Dade, told the board the calendars reflect collaborative work by a joint calendar task force and that the union supports the two-year approach "to help everyone plan accordingly." White said, "UTD and Dade County Public Schools work collaboratively on school calendars per the joint task force provisions of our contract." The board heard questions about aligning spring break and observed that statewide testing windows and the structure of nine-week grading periods constrained some requested changes.
Deputy superintendent and calendar staff explained that drafts considered testing calendars, statutory start-date mandates, required planning days and holiday placement. Board members thanked bargaining-unit representatives for the joint process and approved the calendars by voice vote. Student Advisor Maurice Acosta and several board members urged inclusion of additional stakeholder input for future drafts, including student representation on the task force.
The approved package covers elementary and secondary schools, technical colleges and the juvenile-justice center schools for the two academic years. Board members said the two-year outlook aims to help families, teachers and district planners with longer-term scheduling.
