Resident urges Caldwell County to act on nightly celebratory gunfire, cites sheriff staffing limits

"My son has been waking up so many times during the middle of the night, 2, 3 o'clock in the morning," Morales said, describing neighbors shooting shotguns and rifles close to homes. She said she had contacted the sheriff's office but was told staffing is limited: "We only have personnel, 2 people at night, and then 1 person answering the phone."
Morales asked the court to send a bilingual letter to subdivisions clarifying that county rules prohibit shooting on lots 2.1 acres or smaller and to take steps to notify residents, especially given the county's growing number of subdivisions. She said one sheriff's office visit in a nearby subdivision — with bilingual notices in English and Spanish — temporarily reduced shooting there.
The court thanked Morales for her comments; no formal action was taken on the record, though staff and the sheriff's office already acknowledged limited nighttime staffing in the discussion.
