Caldwell County court calls public hearing on proposed Prairie Lee Public Improvement District

The Caldwell County Commissioners Court on July 23 adopted Resolution 192024 to call a public hearing on the proposed Prairie Lee Public Improvement District (PID).
Judge read the resolution, citing Chapter 372 of the Texas Local Government Code and a petition filed by Lockhart Prop Company, LLC. The petition reportedly meets statutory requirements for owners representing more than 50% of appraised value and area liable for assessment. The court accepted the petition and set the public hearing for 9 a.m. on Aug. 27, 2024 in the county courtroom at 110 South Main Street, Lockhart.
The resolution directs the county clerk to publish notice in a newspaper of general circulation and mail notice to property owners within the proposed district as shown on the tax rolls. The court noted the hearing may be adjourned and that adoption of a resolution creating the district may be deferred up to six months; ultimately, creation of the district is at the court's discretion.
The action calls for statutorily required notices and schedules the opportunity for property owners and others to appear in person or through counsel to speak on the advisability, scope and costs of the improvements and the proposed method of assessment.
