Bay school board elects Steve Moss chair, confirms vice chair and sets meetings for 3 p.m.

At its Nov. 19 organizational meeting, the Bay District Schools board elected Steve Moss as chair and confirmed Mister Register as vice chair before adopting a new meeting schedule.

Miss Leonard nominated Mister Moss for chair; the nomination was seconded and approved by roll call. Moss thanked colleagues and pledged to keep meetings on task. Later, Mister Register was nominated and approved as vice chair with a separate roll call.

The board debated three scheduling options for the coming year. Option 2 — holding biweekly board meetings at 3 p.m. (with the exception of a Dec. 10 meeting already advertised for 1 p.m.) — was moved by Miss Leonard and seconded by Mister Moore. The motion passed unanimously. Board members discussed pros and cons: some argued earlier or evening meetings can improve public attendance around student recognitions, while others said 3 p.m. is a reasonable compromise and workshops remain available for deeper discussion.

The board also emphasized maintaining focused workshops for complex topics, including early work on the district budget.
