Policy 3140 (contracting for services) was updated in light of LB 1300, which imposes obligations to avoid awarding certain technology contracts to designated “scrutinized companies”; staff said districts will need to incorporate required certifications into tech agreements.
Trustees reviewed a proposed recording policy (1102) that would cover cell‑phone audio/video and other recording devices; staff framed the draft as a recommended policy intended to protect student privacy and preserve confidentiality while clarifying allowable recording conduct.
Other discussed items included required staff-development approvals and training lists (policy 4141), promotion/retention updates prompted by LB 71 (policy 5201) that allow parental requests to retain K–4 students under specific grounds and narrower retention authority for grades 5–12, and LB 1329‑related changes to who may carry firearms on school grounds; staff advised trustees to read the firearms policy carefully and consult legal counsel on comfort with statutory language.
