Board Approves Mental‑Health, Special‑Education and HVAC Contracts; Auction of Surplus Items Planned

The Beatrice Public Schools Board of Education approved a series of contracts and routine business motions at its meeting, including agreements for mental-health services, special-education services, school psychologists and HVAC control-system maintenance.
The board approved a contract with the Nebraska Mental Health Center for the 2024–25 school year to provide school psychologist time and mental-health services; the administration said the center has an in-town office and staff available five days a week. The board also approved a Special Education contract with ESU 5 for the 2024–25 school year covering services such as physical therapy (about half-time), vision (approximately two days per week), hearing (less than one day per week) and speech services (one day per week).
The board approved contracts for school psychologists for 2024–25 naming Dr. Dawn Bayloup Balu (part-time) and Dr. Maria Luiza Noble (full-time). Separately, the board approved the control-system portion of an HVAC preventative-maintenance package with Johnson Controls for $8,417.46; combined with the already-awarded Prairie Mechanical preventative-maintenance work (up to $82,000) the current package totals about $90,417, administration said. Mr. Alexander noted the district’s new elementary school currently has a one‑year warranty, which reduces near‑term costs.
The board also authorized staff to hold in-person auctions to sell miscellaneous furniture, equipment and outdated materials no longer needed as the district moves assets into the new elementary school.
