Gary Community School Board adopts 2025–26 calendar, approves consent and grouped action items

The Gary Community School Corporation board voted unanimously Thursday to adopt Draft A of the 2025–26 academic calendar and to approve the consent agenda and a set of grouped action items.

Board President Suggs moved the meeting order earlier so student attendees could see presentations before leaving. After public comment and presentations, the board considered the consent agenda. An unidentified speaker moved to approve consent agenda items 5.1–5.6; a second was recorded and a roll-call vote yielded five yeas and no nays. The board then considered two calendar drafts and, after a short presentation on community input and an explanation that changes reduce the need for students to take district laptops home over winter break, an unidentified board member moved to approve Draft A of the 2025–26 calendar. A second was recorded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote of 5–0.

Later in the meeting the board took a single vote on action items 6.2 through 6.11. An unidentified mover made the motion, another trustee seconded, and the grouped items were approved unanimously, 5–0. The board president announced each roll-call result.

The votes recorded the board members as voting 'yes' in each roll call; individual roll-call names included Suggs, Woods, McCloud and Johnson as recorded by the meeting clerk. The meeting minutes and posted agenda list the specific items approved under the consent and action-item numbers.
