The Gary Community School Corporation board approved a $208,527 contract to Stafford Smith to replace food-service equipment at Glen Park Academy and Bailey Middle School.
Food-service staff and their contractor presented photos and three quotes as part of the procurement package, saying much of the cafeteria equipment was more than 10 years old and in need of replacement. Staff said two other bidders submitted incomplete proposals and that Stafford Smith's bid was the only fully responsive submission for the scope described.
A motion to approve the recommendation passed on a roll call vote recorded as five yes, zero no. The board recorded the motion and subsequent roll call; trustees then moved on to other agenda items.
Staff and administration said this work is the first phase of a broader kitchen-equipment upgrade and that additional schools will be brought forward in future meetings.
