The Gary Community School Corporation board approved several routine but consequential fiscal and policy actions on Sept. 11. The board voted to advertise the 2025 Form 3 and the capital projects plan so the public hearing can proceed; Superintendent-appointed staff said the district must submit an approved budget to the Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) in November.
Mrs. Zabrowski introduced the Form 3 and asked the board to permit public advertisement. "I respectfully ask for the school court to approve the form 3 and the capital projects plan to be publicly advertised," she said; the motion to advertise was moved and seconded and the board carried the motion on roll call.
The board also approved a consent agenda (items 51–56) and several policy second readings. The policy committee chair moved approval on second reading after reporting a committee review, and the board voted to adopt the second readings.
The board approved a resolution to transfer funds from the education fund to the operations fund to cover operational expenses such as transportation, facilities and utilities; the chair announced the motion carried with a tally of "44 to 0." The transcript did not specify the dollar amount of the transfer.
The board approved field trip experiences and the August financial report. Finance staff said the district’s consolidated cash balances totaled about $32,000,000 through August; they noted the operations fund remains constrained by circuit-breaker effects on property-tax receipts, which is why transfers from the education fund are needed.
Board members said the approvals allow the budget timeline to continue and enable the public hearing and board approval dates to proceed on the published schedule.
