Board hears transportation update; district relying on Freehold Regional drivers, runs restructured

The Freehold Township School District board heard a transportation update in which administrators described recent route changes and an arrangement to use drivers from the Freehold Regional High School District.
Administrator (administrative report) said the district had leaned on Freehold Regional High School District drivers to handle runs and that the drivers have been helpful. After restructuring runs — splitting longer routes and instituting double runs in some cases — the district reported improvement in afternoon dismissal times (where runs had previously stretched as late as about 4:15). On the most recent day discussed, the administrator said the last buses completed routes by about 4:04 and all students were dropped off by roughly 4:30.
The administrator acknowledged some parent complaints about longer runs and explained that cross-town travel can add approximately 10 minutes to a route. The update noted Applegate kindergarten uses only township buses and those runs remained on the township schedule.
No formal action was taken; the board received the report and the administrator said she would continue to monitor runs and adjust as needed.
