Barnegat School Board approves personnel hires, multiple committee motions ahead of 2024–25 opening

Transportation staff cleaned and waxed about 50 buses, created new out‑of‑district routes that the district said generated revenue, and secured an EPA grant to support new buses and infrastructure upgrades. District technology staff reported clearing a backlog of more than 100 help tickets, readying staff devices, and having 500 new Chromebooks available for distribution; the administration said $15,000 was recovered by refurbishing and selling older computers rather than recycling them.
There was no public comment; the public‑comment period opened and closed without attendees addressing the board.
On personnel matters, the board approved hiring Alexandra Cahill as a part‑time chemistry teacher at Barnegat High School for a 1/5 teaching assignment during the 2024–25 school year, at a prorated BA+30, step 21 salary amount of $16,722.80. The board also approved the hiring of Richard Trumper as payroll specialist at an annual salary of $85,000 prorated with a planned start date of Oct. 1, 2024, and approved a temporary hourly contract for Trumper to provide payroll services from Sept. 10–30, 2024 at $46.70 per hour not to exceed 35 hours.
The board voted to enter executive session to discuss personnel and legal matters; minutes show the board returned to open session and completed remaining business before adjourning.
The board also announced it will end live remote participation for meetings beginning in September but said recordings will remain available on the district website (posted within 48–72 hours). The district listed dates for parent informational events (BSI and Gifted & Talented) at Collins, Donahue and Horbel schools in September.
