Bedford accepts SoulSmart Silver designation for solar‑friendly policies

Bedford Town Council on Sept. 20 accepted a SoulSmart Silver designation plaque recognizing the town’s adoption of solar‑friendly best practices.
Assistant Town Manager Gene Walker announced that Bedford met SoulSmart criteria—national best practices to speed, simplify and reduce the soft costs of local solar installations—and credited the Energy Commission and consultant Cadmus for helping the town meet the standards. Walker said Bedford is the fourth community in New Hampshire to earn the SoulSmart Silver designation and noted local efforts such as streamlined permitting and encouraging solar on municipal facilities.
Councilor Becky Solds moved to accept the plaque; the motion was seconded and the council approved the acceptance unanimously, 6–0. Councilors thanked staff and commissioners for their work and directed staff to display the plaque and share the recognition with the community.
Councilors also used the meeting to recognize the Town’s ongoing energy work and thanked members of the Energy Commission who attended the meeting.
