The Bedford Town Council voted on Nov. 13 to reallocate $64,702.54 in returned American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and use them toward the purchase and outfitting of four new police vehicles, reducing the town’s 2025 police‑vehicle budget need. Town staff said the total outfitting and purchase cost is approximately $155,000, with remaining funds coming from the town’s police budget.
Separately, the council voted to declare Dec. 26, 2025 an additional employee holiday and incorporate the day in 2025 calendars as an "employee appreciation day." The motion was made by Councilor Gilbert and amended on the floor to adopt the employee‑appreciation phrasing; the council recorded a voice vote in favor. Town manager Rick Sawyer said the change will be presented to unions for agreement.
Both decisions were framed as modest operational adjustments: the ARPA reallocation uses leftover one‑time funds to offset vehicle costs, and the single additional holiday is expected to be absorbed within existing budgets if approved by the affected unions.
