The Plaistow Planning Board on Dec. 20 approved a special-event permit allowing Hilbert’s Plantation LLC to sell Christmas trees at 31 Gardner Road.
Charles Herbert, the applicant, told the board he has sold Christmas trees in Plaistow at several locations for about 30 years and said the change of site this year was due to landlord and real-estate circumstances. “I’ve been doing business in Plaistow for over 30 years in multiple locations,” Herbert said, describing his prior sites and three generations of the family business.
The board voted to accept the application as complete and to approve the permit with one condition: any continuation of tree sales beyond the 2024 season will require planning-board review and approval of an amended site plan. Chair (unnamed) moved to approve the permit with that condition; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Members asked few questions during the public hearing; no members of the public objected. The board’s action allows the seasonal use for this year while preserving the board’s oversight if the operation seeks a multi-year presence at the site.
