Eagle Scout candidate proposes veterans memorial and flagpole restoration at Plaistow cemetery

JT Fox, an Eagle Scout candidate with Troop 18, presented an Eagle project proposal at the Plaistow Board of Selectmen meeting on Sept. 23 to restore a veterans memorial and repair a tilted flagpole at the town cemetery.
Fox said the memorial plaque is sunken and difficult to read and the adjacent white flagpole is tilted. He told the board he plans to dig out and reset the plaque, clean and repaint the pole, straighten it, and add cobblestone edging and crushed-stone landscaping around the memorial. He said he is working with Mr. Rubaletti from the school and Mark Guilford from the town cemetery on the project and expects to seek Eagle Board approval by Oct. 15. If approved, he estimated completion by early to mid-November.
Board members responded positively. One member asked whether the pole would be replaced if it proved unsuitable for reinstallation; Fox said replacement would be considered only if necessary. Another member suggested reaching out to the VA in Salem, N.H., for possible funding help; Fox said he would explore that suggestion and local fundraising through veterans' organizations such as the American Legion and the Lions Club.
The board expressed consensus support for the project during the meeting and encouraged Fox to return with an update when the work is complete. No formal permit or ordinance change was recorded in the public minutes at the meeting.
What's next: Fox plans to pursue Eagle Board approval Oct. 15 and to proceed with fundraising and coordination with town cemetery staff; the board invited him to report back on completion.
