Curriculum staff requested and the board approved a memorandum of agreement with Cardinal Center to permit Applied Behavior Analysis services provided by outside vendors when privately contracted by parents; the agreement expands the district's list of approved outside ABA providers to 15. Board members confirmed that background checks and vendor vetting are required under the agreement.
The board approved the purchase of six welding booths for South Davidson's CTE welding shop from Clean Air Industries at a cost presented in the meeting as $155,205. District staff said the purchase will be paid from federal CTE funds and that bids were solicited; Clean Air submitted the lowest acceptable quote for the specific booths requested.
Operations staff reported a $2,000,000 grant to pilot Evident, a vendor-provided AI safety program that analyzes camera data for weapon detection, perimeter intrusion, visible smoke, down-person alerts and suspicious crowd movement. The pilot will begin at three schools with data collection and reporting to the Center for Safer Schools, and the contract will return to the board for approval in January.
The board also approved awards to North Carolina Sound LLC for intercom replacement at Tyro Middle School (projected cost $36,235.82, funded by a grant) and at West Davidson High School (projected cost presented as approximately $63,935; funded by local capital outlay and grant funds). Board members asked about bid processes and were told that projects were publicly advertised and evaluated; where bids were unsatisfactory options were rejected.
