Davidson County Board swears in new members, elects Jarvis chair and Yates Davis vice chair

Nick Jarvis was elected chair of the Davidson County Board of Education and Heather Yates Davis was elected vice chair after the board publicly nominated and approved both officers during its Nov. 4 meeting.
The board began by administering oaths to newly elected members. Judge David Doherty and other local judges administered the statutory oath, in which each new member pledged to support the constitutions of the United States and North Carolina and to faithfully execute the duties of a Davidson County Board of Education member.
Following the swearing-in, the board considered whether to elect officers publicly or by ballot. Members agreed to elect by public vote. Jarvis received a majority by raised hands to become chair. Yates Davis was nominated and likewise approved by a show of hands to serve as vice chair.
The board also announced a public hearing on the proposed 2025–26 school calendar to be held Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at Davis Townsend Elementary School. The hearing will provide an opportunity for parents and staff to comment on start and end dates and other calendar questions.
The meeting adjourned its public session to prepare for subsequent business and scheduled the next regular meeting for Jan. 6 at Davis Townsend at 6:30 p.m.
