Bullhead City trustees set two superintendent goals after executive session

Bullhead City — Following an executive session Dec. 12, the Bullhead City School District Board established two performance goals for the superintendent and voted to make them public.
Trustee Fred Rushton summarized the goals during the public reconvening: the first goal is to continue work on the district strategic plan and treat it as an ongoing, "living" document rather than a finished product; the second is to increase parent participation in school board meetings and at public events. "That is gonna be an ongoing thing ... and our second goal ... is to increase somehow parent participation," Rushton said.
Before the public discussion of goals, the board convened into executive session pursuant to ARS 38-431.03(A)(1) for personnel matters, including consideration of employment and related topics; the citation was read into the record. After returning to public session trustees discussed and then formally adopted the two goals by recorded vote.
A trustee asked whether the goals would be made public; the district confirmed they must be and said staff will present a formal SMART-goals document at the next meeting for the board to reaffirm. "They'll be smart goals, and they'll be ... you can reaffirm them, and they will be public," the presenter said.
Action taken: The board voted to adopt the two superintendent performance goals and directed staff to provide a formal, public SMART-goals document at the next meeting.
