Summary
The Salina Public Schools Board approved ATG Sports for Salina Stadium turf & track ($967,315) and awarded a South High turf-only project to Mammoth Sports Construction (estimated $1,029,000); both votes were unanimous (6-0).
The Salina Public Schools Board approved two capital projects on Dec. 10, awarding an ATG Sports contract for Salina Stadium turf and track replacement and approving a separate turf-only installation at South High.
Paul Mitchell, who presented both proposals as part of the district's capital improvement plan, told the board the district solicited proposals in November and used pricing available through state contracts and purchasing cooperatives (for example, TIPS and Greenbush). For Salina Stadium the recommendation was ATG Sports based on experience, warranty and turf performance; the board approved the ATG recommendation and an estimated contract amount of $967,315 under the TIPS contract 2302-0102 (motion carried 6-0).
For South High, the board approved a turf-only installation recommended from Mammoth Sports Construction in an estimated amount of $1,029,000. Mitchell explained that the higher cost at South High reflects more extensive sub-base work: the project requires drainage replacement and a build-up of the sub-base, while the stadium work is largely a carpet replacement with minor sub-base repairs.
Board members asked clarifying questions about cost drivers and procurement. The board approved both contracts unanimously.
Next steps: project scheduling and coordination with athletics and operations staff; the district will oversee contract administration and expected warranty terms described by staff.
