Salina Public Schools accepts Superintendent Exline's retirement, launches search with KASB

The board also addressed personnel business discussed in executive session. A board member moved that the board deny a grievance filed by NEA Salina and that a written response be issued within 15 days; the motion was seconded and approved 6-0. The board indicated the grievance decision followed the executive-session review of personnel-related materials.
On next steps for leadership, the board reviewed two search proposals. The board accepted KASB's engagement model and voted 6-0 to work with KASB on the search. KASB's basic search services were presented in the board packet and the quoted fee was $6,500 plus actual expenses; the board discussed posting windows of roughly six to eight weeks, stakeholder input to shape candidate profiles, and a final interview week that would include district tours, stakeholder meetings and evening interviews with finalists.
What happens next: district staff said marketing materials and application details will be posted through KASB and other education placement networks; KASB would screen applicants, call references, and present a slate of finalists for board interviews. The board asked members to review calendar availability for candidate interview weeks planned in January-February.
