MassDEP data portal outage briefly disrupts uploads; users advised to report issues

MassDEP staff reported a recent backend file service update disrupted the department’s new electronic data portal and file viewer, briefly preventing some document access and uploads.
Brian Roden, who provided the update, said IT notified staff of a required backend update that was expected to have minimal impact but instead caused links and file-viewer functionality to fail for some users. "A lot of the documents, the links on searchable sites in file viewer didn't work last week, and you were getting various errors," he said. MassDEP said IT worked with affected teams and that services appear to be restored.
Roden asked users to report any remaining problems to bwsc.edep@mass.gov so staff can work with IT to diagnose and fix lingering issues. Meeting chair Millie added guidance for regulated parties: if parties missed regulatory uploading deadlines or could not access documents due to the outage, they should contact DEP and Brian Roden so staff can review the records and help mitigate potential noncompliance consequences.
MassDEP apologized for the disruption and said it will work with affected program staff and regulated parties to review any consequences tied to the outage; no formal enforcement action or policy change was announced at the meeting.
