Selectmen authorize town administrator to pursue removal of long‑standing unpermitted storage containers

The Greenland Board of Selectmen on Sept. 9 authorized the town administrator to proceed with enforcement action if two shipping containers near Fish & Game Road are not removed after a permit expiration.
Town staff updated the board that one container had been present without a permit for some time and the second permit will expire on Sept. 11. The administrator said the town has sought voluntary compliance; the property owner has been notified and, according to staff, will respond through counsel.
Selectman (speaker 11) moved “to address the town administrator to proceed with further enforcement action against property owner of 15 to 17 Fish and Game Road to remove the storage trailers immediately,” and the motion was seconded and carried by assent. Staff noted that under the local permitting rules owners may be given temporary permits when they are under construction, but these containers have been present far longer than typical permits allow.
The town said potential penalties include fines of about $275 per day plus legal fees if court action is required; staff said the matter may be referred to town council if voluntary compliance is not achieved. No precise timeline was set beyond the Sept. 11 permit expiration; staff said they will issue an order if the containers remain.
