City solid waste staff say new trucks and rentals will restore route capacity by September

Solid waste staff reported on recent truck rentals and an acquisition schedule intended to restore route capacity after storm-related pressures. Staff said three residential rental trucks are in operation and that deliveries are scheduled across the spring and summer: two in March, one in April, two in June and five in September, plus one refurbishment expected to bring the residential total to 11 vehicles.
"Currently, we have just enough residential trucks that we're able to cover our routes. If we have one break during the day, then we're one down," the Solid Waste representative said, adding that the delivery cadence should substantially improve coverage by September. Staff said rentals can be extended if needed and that the mixtures of front-load and residential trucks were selected to meet immediate service needs; rental trucks will be unbranded while purchased trucks will carry city logos.
Council members pressed for specifics about how many of the arriving vehicles are residential; staff clarified that the incoming units are primarily residential and that two are due in March. Staff said the new vehicles will nearly double the number of on-street residential trucks available day-to-day when fully delivered.
No policy vote occurred; staff requested continued council support for procurement and the scheduling of deliveries to maintain uninterrupted service.
