MassDEP staff reported that its fourth round of technical assistance (TA) grants recently closed and agency evaluators are reviewing applicants for awards that provide up to $20,000 per recipient. "We're currently in the process of evaluating everybody who applied," Millie said, and staff will announce selected awardees when evaluations are complete.
On coastal protection, Millie said MassDEP's MOSFRA program selected 15 firms, nine municipalities, three nonprofits and two private organizations in May 2024 for projects intended to safeguard shoreline and marine environments. She said the selected projects totaled about $690,000 in funding. "In May 2024, we selected 15 firms and municipalities ... to basically expand almost $690,000 in doing projects that are important projects to safeguard our shoreline," Millie said.
Millie encouraged communities with multi-program projects (permitting, wetlands, stormwater, asbestos or hazardous-waste issues) to contact the department so staff can coordinate technical assistance and expedite brownfields redevelopment.
Next steps: MassDEP will notify TA-grant recipients and continue to coordinate MOSFRA project implementation with local partners.
