MassDEP staff outline site-cleanup data system changes and new file viewer; users urged to report issues

Brian Roden gave a detailed update on changes to MassDEP's site-cleanup data management systems and tools. He said MassDEP revised eDEP-related forms (citing BWOC 104/107) to reflect the 2024 MCP amendments and that staff believe those form revisions are complete. "Some of those forms and, more specifically, the BWOC 104107 had some larger revisions based on the 2024 MCP amendments, which were released," Roden said.
Roden described a platform migration: the searchable sites data portal's backend was rebuilt because staff changed the way MassDEP uploads data and the agency "no longer use[s] eDEP," he said. He warned users that the old link remains active and may be taken down shortly and urged attendees to use the corrected link shown on the slide because the older link is not updated.
Roden said the transition produced a few technical problems: chemical data initially displayed incorrectly on the portal but "I believe all that's fixed," and some sort orders vary across web browsers. He encouraged users to report any lingering data or display issues to the data support email addresses given in the presentation.
The agency also released a rebuilt file viewer in July. Roden said the new viewer provides a different way to search MassDEP's site-cleanup records and includes internal forms (identified in the transcript as "BWC/bear forms") as well as older BWC form types and eDEP-submitted forms used by licensed site professionals (for example, 104s and 105s). "This was an exciting product release for us... This came out in July, I believe," Roden said.
MassDEP staff repeatedly asked advisory committee members, licensed site professionals and the public to submit feedback about missing features or functionality while the agency remains in a transition and testing phase. No formal actions, votes or regulatory changes were recorded during the update.
