Conservation commission approves minutes, stump-grinding plan and grant application

The Greenland Conservation Commission on Sept. 11 approved its August meeting minutes, authorized preliminary work at Ralston Park including stump grinding and pursuing Select Board permission for drainage and an accessible ramp, and voted to apply for a community conservation grant to fund intern support and easement summaries.

The commission agreed to add start and end times, attendance and motion details to the minutes before final filing and approved them by voice vote. Members then reviewed bids and estimates for stump grinding (an initial quote of $1,300 was discussed), and agreed to seek Select Board permission for drainage work, a ramp and any tree work needed to create safe, wheelchair-accessible access to the river. The commission voted to approve pursuing the stump grinding and obtaining Select Board authorization; the final contractor choice will return to the commission for a hiring decision.

On the final agenda item, members voted to apply for a New Hampshire Association of Conservation Commissions (NHACC) community conservation grant that can fund an intern or small projects such as easement monitoring and interpretive signage. The motion to apply carried; volunteers were assigned to draft application language and to route materials through the town administrator for submission. The commission scheduled follow-up work to prepare a more detailed budget and to collect contractor bids. The meeting closed after committee scheduling and assignment of next steps.
