Pleasant Run Sportsplex: council gets financial projections but no decision

Mayor Julian A. McKillick Sr. updated the council on the proposed Pleasant Run Creek Multi‑Use Sportsplex, saying the city is still in a study phase and no formal agreements have been reached.
Cumberland Securities produced a financial statement using the city’s last 10 years of audits to provide a general fiscal projection, and Younger & Associates has been retained to produce project‑level projections covering facility construction costs, operations (staffing and maintenance), and potential economic impacts (hotel, retail and sales to restaurants). The mayor said Younger & Associates will model options that pair the Sportsplex with mixed‑use development and the Y to estimate revenues and costs.
Council members and staff cautioned that the project would be a major investment and that decisions should be made only after reviewing the detailed projections. The mayor said the city is also reviewing existing vacant buildings as potential interim locations and that the retail recruitment firm (Veil Strategies) is assisting with outreach.
What’s next: staff will present the Younger & Associates projections to the council when complete; no construction or commitment to the Y has been authorized.
