Bolivar council approves minutes, extends sanitation truck loan and discusses PEP grant for LED security lights

Bolivar City Council handled several routine but consequential items in its August meeting: the council approved minutes from July, approved a six-month extension on a sanitation truck loan while the new truck is delayed, and approved participation in a PEP property-conservation grant to replace exterior security lighting with LED fixtures.

Minutes from the July council meeting were approved following a motion by Mister Williams and a second by Mister McKinney, and the mayor announced the motion carried. The council then considered a six-month extension on the sanitation residential truck loan because the replacement truck had not yet arrived; the mayor said the extension would not change the loan’s financial terms and that the vehicle was expected by October. Council voted in favor of the extension.

On new business the council considered Resolution 2024008 to participate in a PEP property-conservation grant. The mayor said the grant would fund LED security lights for city hall and the training center; the new fixtures will be LED and on automated timers so staff do not have to manually switch lights, and they will not be solar. A motion and second were recorded; council discussed sources of matching funds and the city’s interest in future LED street-light upgrades via the utility board.

Other administrative reports included the VA board oath for Mister Cobb’s five-year term and a report from utilities staff that A2H is working on replacing galvanized lines and assessing the lagoon as part of an ORB grant. The fire and police chiefs provided routine operational statistics and announced community events. No new capital appropriation for the drainage problem was approved at the meeting; council said it will act after receiving the A2H engineering study.
