Pryor Creek Rec Center board recommends three candidates to city council

The Pryor Creek Rec Center Board on Aug. 8 recommended three candidates to the city council for appointment to the rec center board, moving each nomination by voice vote.

The board moved to recommend the reappointment of Jamie Knossinger to a term through Aug. 31, 2028, and subsequently recommended Kathy Cobb and David McFarland for appointments to terms expiring Aug. 31, 2028. Motions to recommend each candidate were made and seconded by board members; the board answered in the affirmative and the motions passed, sending the nominees to the city council for final approval.

Kathy Cobb introduced herself to the board, saying she was born and raised in Pryor and has taught school for 28 years, including 18 locally. "I've been affiliated off and on with the after school program," Cobb told the board, adding that she has two children and six grandchildren and that she loves the rec center and wants to "see everything that can possibly be done there be done." The board moved to recommend Cobb and the motion passed.

David McFarland also spoke to the board about his ties to the community, stating, "I've lived in Pryor my entire life. I ran a masonry company here for over 20 plus years," and noting his volunteer role as a kids coordinator at Extreme Church. The board voted to recommend McFarland.

Board members said the nominees will appear before the city council — the board noted a council date of Aug. 20 — where the council will complete background checks and make the formal appointments if they approve. If confirmed by the council, the new members would be sworn in at the next rec center board meeting.

The board also approved the minutes of the July 18, 2024 meeting by voice vote earlier in the meeting.
