Pryor Creek honors firefighters and officers who rushed infant to hospital after dog attack

Chief Cantrell described a May 28 call for service on Orphan Street in which a pit-bull attacked a baby. Captain Merrick and Officer Konzine did not wait for the ambulance and transported the infant immediately to the nearby hospital, actions Chief Cantrell described as going "above and beyond." The chief said responders cleaned and dressed the infant at the scene, accompanied the child to the hospital and later received visits from the parents reporting the child—s recovery.
Council presented life-saving recognition keepsakes to the responding personnel and thanked staff for their quick decision-making and teamwork. The mayor and chief emphasized that fire and police coordination at emergency scenes can materially affect outcomes and praised the departments— ongoing preparedness.
No formal action or budget appropriation was taken during the recognition; council simply acknowledged the response with awards and public thanks.
