Claremore officials announced the city has ended its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) contract with General Electric and has transitioned billing data internally.
"As of today, we are completely unhitched from General Electric for our AMI metering in that contract," Mayor Debbie Long said. She credited Tim White for leading the effort and said staff successfully retrieved all billing data for water and electric meters.
Officials said the change positions the city to roll out customer-facing features the previous vendor had promised, including customer portals and prepay/pay-as-you-go options. Long said implementation will require new policies and training and estimated savings of "5,000,000 plus over the next 4 or 5 years." Tim White was named in the meeting as the city staffer operating AV and having significant involvement in the transition.
Council did not vote on new AMI policies at the meeting; Long said staff will return with policy recommendations and requests for council permission as implementation proceeds.
