Claremore council approves contracting Crawford & Associates for treasurer services

The Claremore City Council voted to appoint Crawford & Associates of Oklahoma City to provide treasurer and governmental accounting services after the city’s previous treasurer retired.

City staff told the council the firm has provided professional governmental accounting work since 1984 and that the city had included up to $60,000 in its budget to cover the firm’s costs depending on how much the service is needed. "They're really great," one staff presenter said, describing the firm’s experience and prior training engagements.

The council moved and seconded approval of the appointment; a roll-call vote recorded affirmative responses and the appointment was approved. No amendments or conditions were recorded on the motion during the meeting.

The action formalizes an already-signed agreement the city said it had with Crawford & Associates and is intended to ensure financial statements are prepared for the end of the fiscal year and that operational accounting support is available while the city onboards the external provider. City staff said the firm had been getting acquainted with the city’s operations and would assist with year-end financials.

Next steps identified in the discussion were administrative: the contract will be executed with the appointed firm and staff will continue to oversee its work. The council did not raise substantive objections or propose a competing vendor during the discussion.
