The Claremore City Council voted to approve a memorandum of understanding with the Cherokee Nation to facilitate construction of a public restroom near Cat Creek Farm/Dog Park. City staff said the Cherokee Nation offered to fund the construction and that the city would assume ongoing maintenance once the facility is completed.
Mister Clinton (staff; name spoken in the meeting) described the agreement as a partnership, saying the Cherokee Nation seeks like-minded partners and had identified Claremore as a community that invests in public goods. Clinton told council members the facility would sit roughly 100 feet west of the existing parking area and that the location aligns with parks-and-trails master-plan work.
Council moved and seconded to approve the MOU; roll call votes were in favor. Staff confirmed park restrooms are locked at night and that maintenance arrangements would follow completion of construction under the MOU.
